A 20-year-old Elgin woman died after a head-on car crash in Elgin Tuesday morning. The woman, identified as Cynthia Vega, was driving her vehicle west on Highland Avenue around 7 a.m. where she collided with another vehicle after crossing the center line near Lyle Avenue.
Vega was transported to St. Joseph's hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The other driver, an unidentified 28-year-old woman, was transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital, condition unknown. Vega was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima when she crossed the center line and collided with the driver of the 2014 Honda Civic. Vega was driving to pick up her boyfriend, who had worked an overnight shift, when the crash occurred.
Vega was 5 months pregnant at the time of the crash. Elgin authorities are continuing the investigation, and anyone with insightful information is encouraged to call 847-289-2661
