A 51-year old truck driver was rearended on I-90 in Rockford, IL by another semi-truck.  He injured his lower back.

After physical therapy and injections failed, he underwent a lumbar laminectomy surgery.  He has failed back syndrome,

which required the surgical implantation of a spinal cord stimulator.  He developed significant clinical depression as a result of

the chronic pain.  He was unable to return to work.

The case went to a three-week trial before Winnebago County Judge Lisa Fabiano.  The verdict on the case was $4,745,000.
