An 8 year old boy was going down an escalator in a suburban shopping mall when his left foot became entrapped between the step and the side of the escalator. This crushed his big toe on his left foot, resulting in its amputation. We were able to show that the step the boy was standing on had chipped prior to the accident, allowing extra space which caused his foot to become entrapped. The mall owner and escalator company settled for $450,000. A portion of that settlement money was placed into an annuity that will pay the boy over $1,000,000 over the course of his lifetime.
