A 67 year old woman slipped and fell on an unnatural accumulation of ice outside the back door of her garden apartment building. As a result, she suffered a fracture to her ankle which required surgery and an injury to her shoulder. The defendants denied liability. After filing a lawsuit, we were able to show that the ice accumulated because a drain that was in the landing outside the back door didn't drain properly. This had been a long standing problem which was confirmed by the property manager. When the weather went to freezing, the water froze, resulting in the dangerous condition which caused our client to fall. The case settled for $270,000.
